Polygiene Technology: Clean & Fresh

Polygiene is an established technology that enhances outdoor apparel and gear by providing effective odor control and antibacterial protection. Their technologies allow for extended adventures with greater comfort and confidence. Their solutions allow me to reuse running socks, base layers and other gear without the need to wash them as frequently — meaning I can continue to put off laundry day.

Polygiene Technology

Polygiene offers two primary solutions to maintain freshness in textiles and gear:

  1. Polygiene StayFresh™ — This antibacterial treatment, based on silver chloride — a salt that is naturally present in water and soil, inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria on fabrics, ensuring garments remain fresh even after prolonged use. Additionally, they offer a plant-based solution of StayFresh tech called StayFreshBio, as well as a non-metal technology called StayFreshQ.
  2. Polygiene OdorCrunch™ — A silica-based technology that neutralizes environmental odors such as cooking fumes, smoke, and body odors, keeping textiles odor-free.

By integrating this tech during the manufacturing process, Polygiene ensures that the odor-control properties are permanent, lasting for the product’s entire lifespan.

Benefits in Outdoor Products

Integrating Polygiene into outdoor gear offers several advantages:

  • Extended Freshness — By preventing the growth of odor-causing bacteria, Polygiene allows adventurers to wear their gear for longer periods without unpleasant smells, making it ideal for multi-day trips.
  • Reduced Laundry — With garments staying fresher longer, there’s less need for frequent washing, saving time, water, and energy. This is particularly beneficial during extended backcountry excursions where laundry facilities are unavailable.
  • Comfort and Confidence — Knowing that your gear remains odor-free boosts confidence and comfort, allowing you to focus on the adventure rather than worrying about body odor.
  • Sustainability — Less frequent washing and longer-lasting garments contribute to a reduced environmental footprint, aligning with sustainable outdoor practices.

Final Thoughts

This article may seem kinda like a sponsored post, but that’s not the case.  And while I have been given products by Polygiene, I’m publishing this piece to increase awareness about a technology that often flies under the radar, but in my opinion, deserves some love. Polygiene’s technologies can significantly enhance the functionality and comfort of outdoor apparel and gear — especially that gear which cannot be easily laundered.

In addition to multiple baselayers and socks I have used for years — I’ve recently been testing both StayFresh & OdorCrunch technologies in the most rigorous way I know — through my men’s league ice hockey gloves. Hockey equipment is notoriously smelly, and has been a glaring issue since my hockey life began as a five year old, north of Boston.  My mother banished my hockey bag to the porch when I was 13, and would sneak dryer sheets into it when I was in high school — a fruitless effort to reduce the stench.  But over the past seven months I’ve been using CCM gloves that feature both OdorCrunch and StayFresh, and have nothing but high praise for the smell, or lack there of, coming from these beauties.

Finally, Polygiene enables us in the outdoors to embark adventures knowing equipment – especially baselayers – will remain fresher and perhaps even hygienic throughout the journey. The list of partners using Polygiene technology is impressive and includes the likes of The North Face, Rab, Nemo Equipment, Athleta, Adidas, Mammut, Orvis and Helly Hansen.  And now that you’re more familiar with them, you’ll likely start noticing their branding on items while shopping.
