Examples of the massage gun in use.

On test: Bob and Brad C2 Pro deep tissue massage gun with heat and cold therapy,

I have tested a number of massage guns and I like them. They are a useful tool for use at home to keep my muscles in decent condition in between massages with a therapist.

A massage gun does not replace the professionalism and expertise of a massage therapist, but it’s a good way to maintain muscles after running and hiking.

Once you have bought the massage gun, it makes massage a relatively cheap activity, too.

The Bob and Brad C2 Pro deep tissue massage gun is a bit different from others I’ve tested, such as the Bob and Brad Q2 Mini Massage Gun, because it also offers a tool with heat and cold therapy.

Many people believe that muscles will recover better with alternate heat and cold therapy so it seems like a great idea to have this as part of the massage gun.

The hot and cold settings operate on one of the massage tool heads. There are different temperatures for each. I think the cold function is better than the heated function. I could feel the cold effect more than the heated effect. Whether it makes a difference to muscle recovery is difficult to tell but I do like the option. There is something quite soothing about having a cold or hot therapy as well as the massaging.

I find the massage gun is easy enough to use on myself on my legs, including calf and thigh muscles. When I wanted a shoulder or back massage, I needed the help of someone else. It’s not easy to apply the right pressure without someone helping with the massage.

The massage gun is very versatile because are five speeds and plenty of different tools for targeting different areas of the body and applying more pressure.

I used the lowestRPM setting mostly because the rest felt too intense. In fact, I wished there was another less intense speed because anything over 2000RPM is too much for me. This might be because I am quite slim and I feel the full force of the power of the massage gun.

I could cope with 2300RPM on my quads and hamstrings but nowhere else.

There are other lighter weight massage guns and those without heat an cold therapy, but for £99, less another 10%, the price seems really good.
